MyCourts has been installed and tested on the Vista, Win7 and Win8 operating systems and works "out-of-the-box". MyCourts Administrator requires elevated permissions however you will be advised by MyCourts Administrator at the time. You may be asked by the Operating System for 'Administrator Permission' if your level is not sufficient. For example:
In at least Win8, being logged on as an Administrator is not sufficient - you need to run MyCourts Administrator 'As Administrator'. When you install MyCourts, this permission will be applied automatically. MyCourts main program does not require elevated permissions.
One of our more common requests for support simply states that "When I start MyCourts Administrator I get a message saying that MyCourts Administrator cannot access the database." More often than not the computer's operating system is Microsoft's Vista or above and the user that is logged on does not have Administrator privileges.
There has been a lot written about Vista and Security - or more importantly Vista's User Access Control or UAC as it is commonly known. Almost all agree it is a great idea but it is hard to understand for anybody except 'power users'. Eventually, most users disable it altogether promising themselves that they will study it later when they have more time and will then re-enable it. Aquarius Communications do not recommend turning the UAC off. In fact, you cannot completely turn the UAC off in Win8
The choice is yours but if you want to eliminate the possibility that MyCourts cannot access the database because you have told the UAC that the logged on user isn't allowed to access it then we suggest you try the following:
Open up Control Panel, and type in "UAC" into the search box. You'll see a link for "Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off":
On the next screen you should uncheck the box for "Use User Account Control (UAC)", and then click on the OK button.
You will then need to re-boot the computer and try to use MyCourts again.
If that solves the problem then you will need to read more about Vista and the UAC so that you can make a decision as to whether you will leave it turned on or grant specific users sufficient privileges so they can access MyCourts database.
